I look up from the main piste and see this boarder way above cutting a great line across the top of a very precipitous slope. 

The shadow and powder snow trail seemed very balanced. 

I like the tension between the pristine rather gentle looking snow surface and the rider breaking that perfect crust revealing the danger of the potential fall.

We had a lovely time in Val Cenis. It is a charming traditional resort. The support from Suzanne was first class, she listened to us and understood exactly what we wanted and kept it in a good budget and even helped organise ski lessons.

Just wanted to say a big thank you to Suzanne at Blue Sky Ski-ing. Although we decided not to travel for skiing over Christmas, Suzanne was incredibly helpful in rescheduling our trip with no issues at all. Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, with its own ski area at 2,300m connecting directly into Les 3 Vallées, the largest interconnected ski domain in the world with over 600km of pistes. Beginners are well looked after too: the resort has five dedicated beginner areas where young or inexperienced skiers can build confidence in total safety, with gentle green runs right by the village and easy access via covered lifts — perfect for little ones starting out with ESF ski school.For more experienced skiers, the terrain opens up dramatically. The Cime de Caron rises to 3,200m and serves the famous 3km "Caron" run, one of the resort's toughest descents, while Combe de Caron and Combe de Rosaël offer steep, challenging pitches with excellent snow conditions for confident and expert riders. La Rosière — Charm, Sunshine & Family Slopes

La Rosière is one of the few French resorts that faces due south, meaning glorious sunshine and gentle, forgiving snow all day long — ideal for young or nervous skiers. Its village-level nursery slopes let beginners find their feet without daunting gondola rides, and once confident, easy blues extend right across the mountain, so kids progressing through ESF lessons always have room to grow.For stronger skiers, the terrain becomes genuinely rewarding. La Rosière links directly to La Thuile in Italy via the Espace San Bernardo, giving access to over 150km of pistes across both countries. Val Cenis — Traditional Charm, Family-First

Val Cenis is a wonderfully welcoming place to learn, with dedicated beginner areas in both of its villages set apart from busier through-traffic, so first-timers can build confidence at their own pace. Families will love the Escargot, Europe's longest green run at 10km — a gentle, playful descent through the trees that makes for a memorable first "big" ski down the mountain together. When little legs need a rest, the resort's toboggan run offers 900m of fun for kids from age five upwards.More experienced skiers have plenty to sink their teeth into as well, with 125km of varied pistes rising from 1,300m to 2,800m.
